Camp sponsor Sunbeam Properties & Development and Miramar Park of Commerce host barbeque for campers and Miramar Police Officers
Sunbeam Properties & Development and the Miramar Park of Commerce, in partnership with the Miramar Police Athletic League (PAL), kicked off another exciting year of the “Hangin’ with 5-0” summer camp with a beach cleanup and barbeque lunch at Hollywood North Park Beach.
The “Hangin’ with 5-0” camp is a special summer program for students ages 9 to 14, selected by their school’s resource officer and guidance counselors. This camp is designed to bridge the gap between Miramar’s police officers and local youth through a summer filled with fun activities and outings, including movies, pool days, roller skating and more.
Participants and Miramar police officers came together to clean up the beach, showing the power of teamwork and community spirit. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a celebratory barbeque lunch, courtesy of camp sponsor Sunbeam Properties & Development and the Miramar Park of Commerce.
“For more than 21 years, this program has been creating lasting memories and fostering positive relationships between the youth and the police,” said Ryan Goggins, Vice President, Acquisitions, Leasing and Marketing for Sunbeam Properties and Development. “Sunbeam Properties & Development and the Miramar Park of Commerce have been dedicated in our support of the camp, stepping in to fund the program 15 years ago when city budget cuts threatened its existence.”
Each May, Miramar PAL in cooperation with the Miramar Police Department and the City of Miramar begin to register students for summer camp. The organization provides educational, athletic, civic and crime prevention activities for youth in a safe environment through a cooperative partnership between the police and the community. More information about the camp and its programs is available at www.miramarpal.org.
In addition to Hangin’ with 5-0, Sunbeam Properties and Development supports the City of Miramar through other nonprofit organizations and donated resources for the Ansin Sports Complex and the Ansin Family Gallery in the Miramar Cultural Center. The Miramar Park of Commerce has also been the site for America’s Moms for Soldiers, supply drives for several holiday toy drives for children in need with the Miramar Police Department, a school supply drive for children who have a military parent on deployment and a food drive for United Way of Broward County.
